Since a small boy I have been making things. My mother (a dressmaker) would supply me with cotton reel bobbins and I would make my first dinky car. Then I progressed to model aircraft. Not plastic kit glue together; balsa wood, cut with a scalpel, glued, covered with tissue paper and stretched with a coating of dope.
Then on to dental school where I found every day a joy as long as it was practical and not theory.
Most of my work has been produced under the supervision and guidance of part-time inspirational teachers (artists) at FE colleges in two hour bursts. The pity of it is that these bastions are under severe threat due to lack of funding. Indeed HGSI has gone to the wall recently.
It is for you to decide whether I can call myself an artist or not. Whatever else, it has been an amazing journey and great therapy especially after leaving dentistry.
Do I have a style, a signature? The human form has been my template for so many years, my work seems always to project along organic pathways. What of the future? To continue learning, sometimes failing, trying different materials and approaches.
